Common Name: Lemonadeberry
Latin Name: Rhus integrifolia
Description: Lemonadeberry has multitudes of tiny pink blossoms, maturing into the corn kernal-sized fruit seen here. The fruit is covered in a sticky substance which has a tart, lemony taste. Early settlers made a drink by soaking the fruit. The seeds contain cyanide, discouraging critters from chewing on the fruit.
Location: Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve, close to John J. Eichar’s grave site.
