The Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve and neighboring preserves, Lopez
Canyon, Black Mountain Open Space Park and Del Mar Mesa, cover thousands of
acres with a great variety of species of plants and animals. When you enter
these preserves it is hard to believe that you are in one of
the top ten largest cities in the United States.
The purpose of the photo pages is to share with you the beauty of the
wildlife in the preserves and provide information about some of the plants
and animals present. Click the thumbnails for each category below to learn
more about the animals and plants, or check what is blooming during
different months of the year. There is also a photo scenery category where
you can see the beauty of the canyons.
We encourage you to visit the preserves and look for those plants and
animals, but please stay on the trails to protect this fragile environment. Feel free to email us
your own photos (only shots from the canyons please) or let us know if you
have seen anything you think we might be interested in.
