From Ranger Gina Washington:

October 5, 2011

This rain was a little more than I had expected, puddles have formed so it will be best to stay off the trails for a day or two. We are supposed to get more rain on Sunday. This might be a good weekend to get a few things done around the house, start making a dent in those “to-do” lists we all have tucked away for rainy days… J

The day has finally come, we have gotten enough work done on the south single track trail to open it completely. That means that in Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve all trails are open

July 22, 2011

I am happy to announce the opening of ½ mile of the south single track trail! The single track trail from Carson’s Crossing going east ½ mile to the cut off to the main road/trail is open. The work isn’t complete, but it is useable for the time being.

The south single track east of the cut off trail to Peñasquitos Creek Park Crossing is still closed. Just follow the yellow rope “fences” and you will be on the right trails. We are still seeing horse hoof prints on the closed portion of trail…L This is very unsafe for the horse and rider, so keep out until the yellow ropes and signs come down and you get a happy email from me saying it is ready for traffic.

We are working very hard to get the trail to a useable condition, there is a good mile of trail work left to be done with limited access points, so it takes a little longer. I really appreciate your patience. When we get all the base work done and we start getting into the better trail construction season I may be calling for volunteers to do some final tread work. Get your wheel barrows ready!

Emergency Contact System I wanted to let all of you know about an emergency contact system the Rangers have acquired, old technology but useful. We have a duty pager. If you encounter an emergency or happen upon vandalism/off road vehicle in the act, you can page the rangers, if on duty they can respond quickly.

Obviously, if what you encounter is a life threatening emergency you should call 911 first.

The office number isn’t the best contact b/c we usually aren’t in the office. We don’t have a central dispatch to speak of so this was the next best thing. Here’s how it works, in case you forgot about pagers…

Call 619-232-2237 when prompted enter pager # 1886, at the next prompt enter your contact number and we will call you back as soon as we get the page, which is within about a minute, if we are on duty we’ll be on our way.
