Make a Difference
Dear Friends, 2025 saw us expanding our restoration work in Black Mountain Open Space for Cactus Wren and Monarch Butterfly habitats.
We made great progress on our Harrier Hill/Fennel Forest Project, which will now be expanded to neighbouring plots.
Continuing the effort we first spearheaded in 2018, our trained volunteers are still surveying the Penasquitos Canyon old-growth Oaks, and we continue financing their selective treatment against the devastating effects of GSOB.
But this was also a sad year for the Friends because we lost our long-time member, friend, and all-around good person, Les Braund. We hope to honor Les by naming one of his favorite trails for him. The other way we would like to honor Les is to dedicate this year’s donations exclusively to our Les Braund Gold Spotted Oak Borer Fund. Saving these oaks was a major issue for Les.
Read here our Giving Tuesday fund appeal to learn more about the work carried out during this year and our new projects.
