Del Mar Mesa Preserve Vernal Pool Restoration Project begins October 13

Gina Washington, Senior Park Ranger

We’re excited to share that the Chaparral Lands Conservancy’s Vernal Pool Restoration Project in Del Mar Mesa Preserve will resume on Tuesday, October 13, 2026!

This project marks an important step forward in enhancing and protecting our sensitive habitats. Restoration efforts—including improving existing vernal pools and creating new ones—will occur within the fenced area inside the Bowtie Trail perimeter and extend along an old road cut up to the east Bowtie/Fire Road intersection (shown in the blue polygon on the map below). We’re excited to see this unique habitat receive the care and attention it deserves.

Please also be aware that construction equipment and vehicles will be accessing the site via the Powerline Trail, entering from the end of Park Village Road (yellow highlighted line). You may notice activity in this zone, so we encourage everyone to stay alert and use caution.

There may be brief, intermittent trail closures during work hours as construction crews move equipment through the area. The great news is that all authorized trails (see dashed line on map excerpt below) will remain open overall and will not be permanently impacted by this project.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and support in caring for the natural treasures of Del Mar Mesa Preserve. If you have any questions, we’re always here to help.
